Jessica Simpson Fights Back on Fashion Star

Oh, it's on now! "Fashion Star" mentor Jessica Simpson gets into it with a contestant over the always controversial topic: the placement of zippers on a jacket.
In an upcoming episode of NBC's new fashion reality series (which debuts March 13), designer Nicholas Bowes, who hails from Australia, presents his biker jacket for the mentors' inspection. John Varvatos says it's a bit on the "meh" side, which Nicholas seems to acknowledge. However, once Simpson starts in on the zippers, Nicholas just can't stay quiet.

Ashley Olsen

While her little sister Elizabeth Olsen is currently Hollywood's "It" girl, one half of the Olsen twins, Ashley, has announced that she no longer has plans to act.
We worked non-stop until we were 18," the fashion mogul said in an interview with Elle U.K. "Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn't mean I'm not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it's not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away."

Big East Tournament 2012

"NEW YORK"Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said he didn't think any team would ever do what his did last year – win five games in five days to earn a conference tournament title.
The Huskies had plenty of people thinking they could be repeating history just one season later and it took another memorable Big East tournament matchup with Syracuse to end their 13-game postseason winning streak.

Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson has revealed she and fiance Eric Johnson are expecting a baby girl.
She," Simpson, who will serve as a celebrity mentor for the fashion designers on NBC's upcoming Fashion Star reality competition, told ELLE magazine of her baby when she posed nude for the cover of its April 2012 issue.
Simpson and the former NFL player have reportedly picked out a name for their baby already but are waiting to make the announcement.

New Ipad Release

Apple’s product launches may be the most obsessively-covered media events on the planet — presidential press conferences possibly excepted = but that doesn’t mean that people understand them.
Actually, as I mulled over today’s new iPad event and its implications, I’m struck by how little of the conventional wisdom about these rollouts feels like wisdom. Much of it is crude, out of date or just plain wrong. Including some of my own assumptions.

Space Weather

A space weather storm that was forecast to be the strongest in five years has fizzled out and ended up causing no impact to power grids or modern navigation systems, US experts say.
A series of eruptions on the Sun this week sent radiation and solar plasma hurtling toward Earth at high speeds but in the end, the geomagnetic storm registered the lowest level, G1, on a five-step scale.

Northern Lights

Travelers in Alaska, Canada, the northern Plains, parts of the Midwest and much of the West tonight (Thursday) may be treated to a northern lights display more intense than usual because of the powerful solar storm hitting the Earth's surface, according to science and weather reports.
The geomagnetic storm reached Earth about 5:45 a.m. EST Thursday. Scientists say the initial storm has been weaker than expected but may intensify later today.
Northern lights trackers say tonight could bring a spectacular show to mid- and high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. AccuWeather.com says bright streaks were seen over the Great Lakes region Wednesday night.

Solar Flare

Earth's magnetic field is about to be shaken like a snow globe by the largest solar storm in five years.
After hurtling through space for a day and a half, a massive cloud of charged particles is due to arrive early Thursday and could disrupt utility grids, airline flights, satellite networks and GPS services, especially in northern areas. But the same blast also could paint colorful auroras farther from the poles than normal.

Patricia Heaton

The sitcom star is at the center of a media firestorm after she apologized this week to Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student and contraception advocate whom radio host Rush Limbaugh infamously denounced as a "slut" and "a prostitute." Heaton, star of ABC's "The Middle," was forced to backpedal -- and temporarily suspend her Twitter account -- after a series of tweets gleefully ridiculing Fluke.
But as it happens, both Heaton, a devout Catholic never shy about  airing her devotion to conservative causes, and Limbaugh have been in this type of political jam before. Together.

Donald Payne

The eastern U.S. state of New Jersey's first black congressman, Representative Donald Payne, has died after a battle with colon cancer.  Sources close to the 77-year-old Payne say he died Tuesday at a New Jersey hospital.  U.S. President Barack Obama Tuesday expressed his condolences to Payne's family at the end of a news briefing. He called Payne "a wonderful man" and a friend who "did great work, both domestically and internationally."
Payne announced last month that he was undergoing cancer treatment, but said he would continue to represent his district. The lawmaker had held his congressional seat since 1988 and was elected to a 12th term in 2010.

Earthquake San Francisco

The pair of earthquakes that rattled the San Francisco Bay Area on Monday were caught on tape during a morning television news show.
I believe we are feeling an earthquake right now," KGO-TV's Kristen Sze said at 5:33 a.m. when the 3.5 and 4.0 quakes struck. "It's a pretty big earthquake. The studio is shaking."
Another anchor then noted lights were shaking in the studio.
The quakes occurred in the East Bay town of El Cerrito.
According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" Web page, the temblor was felt from Santa Cruz to beyond Santa Rosa. It was particularly reported by Oakland, Berkeley and other East Bay communities close to the epicenter.

Lenny Dykstra

Dykstra, 49, who spent his 12-year career with the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, has had a series of recent legal troubles and the prison sentence is part of a post-career downward spiral for the stocky slugger known as “Nails” that has included a stint at a sober living facility.
In a rambling and impassioned plea for probation, Dykstra said he has tried to make amends for his past transgressions and said he would be cleared of any wrongdoing had his motion to withdraw his plea been granted. “I’m doing everything in my power to be a better person,” he said.
Dykstra, wearing a gray suit with a blue shirt, was immediately remanded to custody as he walked into the court’s back room, hands in his pockets. Dykstra has earned nearly a year’s worth of credit toward his sentence for time already served.

Karina Smirnoff Wedding

Only a few weeks after Karina Smirnoff and her partner J.R. Martinez took home the mirror ball trophy on "Dancing With the Stars," reports claim that the dancer has called off her engagement to Tigers pitcher Brad Penny.
Signs that trouble was brewing has already appeared in October 2011 when Smirnoff postponed her wedding with the MLB player, ostensibly to focus on the "Dancing" competition. Smirnoff's strict schedule paid off, earning the dancer her first DWTS win after ten tries at the mirror ball trophy.
Less than a month later, however, her relationship with Brad Penny seems to have come to end, with E! Online, MSN and multiple other sources reporting that Smirnoff and Penny have called it quits.
Smirnoff Has Stormy Relationship History
Although Smirnoff was seen in Las Vegas last week wearing her ring, the couple has not commented on the breakup, and things have been cold between the couple for some months now, according to E!.

Virginia Tech News

There is no known connection between a Virginia Tech police officer who was ambushed on campus and the gunman who later killed himself, police said today.
But there is evidence that the shooter went to some lengths to assassinate Officer Deriek Crouse. Police believe he may have stolen a car to get to the campus, and brought a change of clothes to aid his escape.
At least part of the deadly encounter that rattled the campus Thursday was captured on Crouse's dash-cam and since the Virginia Tech officers are also "miked," so there was likely audio of the encounter.
We know who this person is," Corinne Geller of the Virginia State Police said at a news conference this morning. Geller did not immediately release his identity until next of kin are notified.
However, authorities have not yet identified a motive for the ambush.
At this time we have made no connection that the shooter and Officer Crouse knew each other at the time of the shooting," Geller said.

Metta World Peace

Ron Artest is no more. And say hello to Metta world peace. The judge gave the official name change after today, Ron applied three months ago. I am rooting for world peace on Dancing with the Stars! Here's the meaning of his name:

Day of Rage

Technical work associated with the political movement that says a lot about this movement.
Today the United States to feed the anger in the Twitter features a picture of the dollar bill tenth distortion. He said one of them black hair and a mustache Hitler to establish the father Alexander Hamilton, who oversees the Congress in 1999 as "the man who more than any other designed for the U.S. government."
Founders and the Nazis: This is what leftists who plan to occupy the Wall Street tomorrow, think of the American experience. It's not as if the organizers and the media savvy of the United States on anger do not understand the significance of the founders. The scene to call down the name Publius, alias Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay wrote the joint as the Federalist Papers.
Event organizers swear up and down to the protest will be peaceful and comprehensive in nature. This raises the question as to why they named them after the event "Day of Wrath" the original signed in Chicago in 1969. In that year, bustling, and the members of what was later became known as the Weather Underground has raised four days of riots and demonstrations against the regime.
September 17 protest comes after months of ACORN founder Wade Rathke wrote about the "jihad against the bank," and Stephen Lerner, SEIU operative and promised to "bring down the stock market" through a campaign of disruption. The sociologist said Abe Sher was bullish on the potential plan for Lerner cause widespread unrest. "Frances Fox Piven and Richard] Cloward taught us ... the poor people's movements are successful when they create the conditions of ungovernability. And win victories."
It's not clear exactly what will transpire in lower Manhattan, but do not believe the United States on anger organizers of the event when they say they will not turn violent. They claim they are "fighting a war for the soul of our nation and its people."
On Saturday the event, organizers vowed to make "protest horizontal network" by the occupation of public places in the Wall Street itself and throughout "the entire island of Manhattan."
Echoing the observation of radical William Kunstler 'infamous lawyer that the police could be "an army of occupation", and today the United States from the anger makes it clear that members of the New York Police Department is the enemy. "I have been to prevent citizens from exercising their right to peaceful assembly in New York City because of the force that was established to serve and protect civil society, and New York police, and became a paramilitary force to fight against Intel."
In Manhattan to protest the scope and will be accompanied by companion protests in Portland, OR, and Los Angeles and San Francisco, Seattle and Austin, Texas, and legal observers from the Bar Association's pro-communism and national will be available.
The union recommended to be useful among the demonstrators not to cooperate with members of the Intelligence Division of the New York police, or with any of the police officers. Participants should access "with contact information written legal on your wrist or ankle, and there is no guarantee that the information written on paper will be available in case of arrest.
