Sudan Leader in Nairobi as Kenya Adopts Constitution
Nairobi: Kenya formally adopted a new constitution Friday in a ceremony attended by several African leaders, including Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, in spite of those accused of crimes of genocide and war crimes.
Threatened its existence to darken the historic ceremony watched by tens of thousands of spectators that Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki signed the law in the Constitution in the garden of the main Nairobi.
Document, approved by an overwhelming majority in a national referendum earlier this month, is a column of reforms aimed at avoiding a repeat of the violence that has killed more than 1000 people after the disputed 2007 election.
The new law, to replace the Constitution of the country’s independence in 1963, maintains a presidential system, but with large checks, and provides system devolved government and enhance democracy and fundamental rights.
Massed hordes of Kenyans who were waving flags in Nairobi, Uhuru Park (Freedom Park) Where a military parade, and the flight of helicopters and a 21-gun salute marked the event for more details.
