Afghan President Says Airstrike Killed Civilians
KABUL, Afghanistan – NATO air strikes in northern Afghanistan on Thursday killed about 12 fighters, but President Hamid Karzai said the victims were employed in the electoral campaign, which seeks votes in parliamentary elections this month.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, meanwhile, arrived in the Afghan capital of Kabul to meet with Karzai and the NATO commander Gen. David Petraeus. Secretary of Defense also plans to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
